Transitioning Back to the Office

Over the last year, many of us have grown pretty accustomed to working from home. Some of us I’m sure have gotten maybe a little too comfortable, the blazer up top and PJs on the bottom look, while some of us have been absolutely itching to get back. Whether you are on one side of the spectrum or the other it will definitely be a transition we need to get used to.

Here are some ways you can make the shift easier for yourself.

Start waking up earlier

We know how nice it’s been to cut out the commute and get those extra 15 minutes of shut-eye but believe us, trying to go cold turkey and get up at your old usual time will not be easy. Try getting up just ten minutes earlier than normal, and slowly increase the time so it doesn’t hit like a ton of bricks all at once.

Ease into it

If you have the option, try going into the office every other day for a week to give yourself time to get used to it. It can be overwhelming to go from working at your desk on your own at home to now thinking about packing your bag, bringing food, interacting with others, and for some, putting pants on for work for the first time in months! Easing your way back into full-time work is a great start to getting back to normal.

Repurpose your home office

If you are going to be working full time in the office now, changing your home desk into something totally different will make it easier to head into work when the option to WFH isn’t there. Try changing your desk into a workstation for a new hobby or something!

Get ready the night before

Hectic mornings, we’ve all been there. Often times a rushed morning sets you up for a day full of scrambling and playing catch up. If you take the time to prep the night before it sets you up to have a productive day at the office. Pack your lunch or plan where you’ll grab takeout from, set out your clothes for the day, and make sure everything you need like chargers, notebooks, and agendas and easily accessible.
