A Beginners Guide to In-person Coworking

Coworking is a fairly new idea and it seems just as it was starting to take off, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, moving all things to the virtual realm. As beneficial as coworking online has been the last couple years, nothing compares to the creativity, flow and productivity that in-person coworking creates. If you are new to the coworking community and haven’t experienced it in-person, here’s what you need to know.

First day?

If it’s your first day working in a communal workspace, don’t be shy. We were all in your shoes once! The first step is to get acquainted, find the best spot for you, maybe by a window or a big comfy chair. Choose a place where you can feel the most productive.

Introduce yourself, whether you’re outgoing or more introverted, really try to talk to the people in the areas around you. A strategy to help you get to know your coworking community is to never eat alone. When lunch time comes around, find new people to sit and connect with. Take full advantage of the social aspect of coworking!

Community, community, community

Anyone you meet who has coworked in person before will almost always tell you it’s about the people. Coworking gives you the opportunity to work with people way outside your circle. In addition to working alongside each other, oftentimes there are community building and networking events that help strengthen relationships outside of the working environment. The beautiful thing about in-person coworking is being able to have casual conversations and get to know others without worry about interrupting others on zoom or not being on mute. Believe us, it’s so much better than the chat function!

Productivity

It’s hard to give 100% effort into everything you do all day, and it’s important to have a space that accommodates that. If you need to take a break at a regular office you’re usually still sitting at your desk or in a lunchroom. At coworking spaces, we have couches and comfy chairs that allow you to change up your environment and connect with people without having to go to far! Working with others around you helps you to stay productive and they can help push you to reach your goals before the end of the day.

Hopefully with these tips you feel more ready to take on the world of in-person working and we’re so happy to have you on board!
