Member Highlight: Osborne BIZ

Osborne Biz is your neighbourhood watch dog that you’ve never had. Think of your fancy mall cop but with a lot more care for the community. Osborne Biz is enhancing the business zone whilst keeping the village safe and clean.

The man in charge is Brian. After years of being submerged in different districts he took it upon himself to keep the community safe. Brian back in the day is what you would call a hippie. When graduating high school he found himself deciding between administration or law. Brian dropped it all for joining the police force.

During this time it took people only 3 months to become a police officer. The application process itself was very discriminatory and rigid. Brian now advises that there should be a lot more training to be a police officer. In addition the way of policing has alternated into something completely different. When Brian was a police officer it was about keeping a community safe. Each police officer was assigned to an area, and they were meant to get to know the people within that community so that the people could trust them. So when someone felt unsafe within the community they knew who to call.

After several years in the force Brian had decided it was time to retire. He chose to help troubled youth find a better path. As a teacher’s aide Brian endured quite a bit of difficulty. It was heartbreaking for him to see kids who had no intent in graduating high school. But it filled his heart when he saw the children who got on track and decided to turn around their lives.

Once frustration hit its limits Brian took an opportunity at the exchange district. Someone who knew someone knew Brian and thought he would be perfect for exchange biz. Since he had been doing landscaping on the side for most of his life the job seemed to suit him well. He took an unpaid leave of absence from the school district and never looked back. He was able to maintain the operation manager position for 5 years. Then moved to be the executive director of Exchange Biz. From there he upgraded to the executive director of Osborne biz.

Now Brian’s works closely with a team of students. Their tasks include removing needles from the neighbourhood, removing graffiti within 6-8 days and if it is obscene it will be taken down within 24 hours. In addition the team maintains the neighbourhood flowers. The Biz takes pride in advocating for safety, cleanliness and longevity of the businesses here. Osborne Biz is the heart of the community and at TableSpace we can’t wait to do see what they do next.
