Why Transitioning Back into the Office is Beneficial

With a sense of normalcy making its way back into our lives, most people are itching to get back out in social settings but are dreading going back into the office. It’s easy to see why people love working from home, no commuting, easier to work your own hours and for people with children, thinking about childcare has been less of an issue.

If you aren’t excited about getting back into the office, here are some ways working in-person and transitioning back into the office can help you!

Figuring out the work culture is increasingly difficult when working remotely.

It’s harder to ask questions, build relationships with coworkers and for people to see if you’re struggling and reach out.

If you’ve been in the same job throughout the pandemic, there are also benefits to seeing your coworkers in person every so often. When working remotely the sense of community and the drive to succeed can sometimes lessen.

Working in collaboration

Collaborating with others while remotely is one of the tougher things we’ve had to navigate this year. A lot of brainstorming and informal collaboration happens through conversation around the workplace. When we’re limited to scheduled zoom calls and emails it can be a harder and longer process to get things done and come up with new ideas.

Another reason to get yourself back in the office is a sense of purpose. When we work remotely it’s easy to feel like our work doesn’t matter and cut off from your community.

The benefit of working with others fulfills our need for connection and belonging. Whether you are introverted or extroverted, we all need connection and with being limited to who and where we can go to socialize, work has become one of the few places to see others. Moving back into the office can give you that sense of community with others we’ve been missing this year.

As much as some of us love working in our own space, transitioning back into the office can be really beneficial to not only your work but also to your health and wellbeing.
