Member Feature - Joel Cloutier
We had the opportunity to sit down with one of our long time members, Joel Cloutier. What we love most about this community is that we are able to connect with amazing individuals like Joel, who has a story about how he got to where he is today.
Joel is a Sales Director with Horizon and has been a member with TableSpace since August 2020. 2020 was a unique year for many businesses as they had to navigate and adjust to their new reality of remote working. Joel began his journey with a degree in Biology. He leveraged his degree into a career in Pharmaceutical sales selling equipment to clone DNA! Joel then switched to the telecom industry. He worked for Verizon in Toronto for 8 years. He then worked for Cable &Wireless in the Cayman Islands for 3 years. Returning to Winnipeg after being away for 12 years, he had to pivot his career a third time. He began working in IT Sales.
With the world constantly moving closer to automation every day, Joel believes that jobs like sales will always be needed. People will always want that personal connection, i.e. robots will never be able to take away a job that requires the ability to connect with people and to think on one's feet.
After working years in multiple industries, Joel has 3 tips he would like to share with anyone who is looking to get into sales:
Tip #1: Be willing to take feedback and be coachable.
Tip #2: Be willing to learn, re-learn and try new things.
Tip #3: Never be afraid to reinvent yourself.
Work has changed for most people in the past year and a half! Joel has found peace of mind working at TableSpace in the shared co-working space. He likes that he is able to be productive and connect with other like-minded individuals on a daily business. TableSpace provides him the calm energy he needs in order to think and be successful.
